Featured Work

“Hugh Lifson…is deeply committed to the complex cultural developments, movements, and controversies of his time. He is not solely an artist, but an artiste-philosophe...”

The visual inspiration of Hugh Lifson’s work comes primarily from a lifelong study of architecture, whether it be Timurid and Saffafid Persian Decoration, Romanesque in England, or Palladian in Italy.  Also, the visual effect of Lifson’s work offers a three-dimensional experience of color, as each layer reveals a transparency of pigments, not unlike Venetian painters of the Renaissance.
